The Media Design Program explores communication across
media, using traditional and emerging technologies to take on the info-saturated,
networked world. Media designers are meaning-makers who skillfully combine
the medium and the message to create communications that integrate the
user, reader, or viewer’s interaction. Media designers work with interactive
objects and spaces, transmedia typography, massive- and micro-scale displays,
still and moving images, sound, narrative, dynamic information, branding
strategy, interface design, and graphic visualizations. The practice is
informed by an in-depth understanding of material culture, communication
theory, productive interaction, design research methods, and media history
and theory.
